TechCrunch — December 17, 2018 12:18pm: Oculus VR is introducing its very own VR room decoration, The Christmas Room, to its new Oculus Home VR companion app.
As a bonus, the app will be free to download, with the company providing the original artwork as a free download.
The VR app will include a selection of Christmas-themed wallpapers, as well as a “full-screen gallery” where users can browse through the full range of decorations and interact with each individually.
The app will also include “a number of useful” features, including a “holiday theme calendar,” which will let users “track the progress of each day’s decorations,” and a “Christmas card editor,” which lets users edit their own Christmas cards.
The “holiday” theme calendar will have a curated list of Christmas decorations for users to choose from, and a holiday card editor will allow users to create and edit their holiday cards.
Oculus has not revealed how long the app is expected to be free, or how many people will be able to use it.
However, Oculus VR has yet to reveal any plans to release the app to other platforms, such as mobile phones.
The company previously revealed that it was testing an Oculus Rift version of its home automation software, called HomeKit, on its latest generation hardware, including the Oculus Rift, the Oculus Touch, and the Gear VR.
Earlier this month, Oculus announced that it would also release a free app to its mobile device customers, which is called Oculus Mobile.
