NEW YORK (Reuters) – A Christmas tree at a popular New York City shopping mall has been replaced with a $4,000 Christmas decoration, the retailer said on Tuesday.
The $3,800 tree was hanging on a fence at the Walgreens in Harlem.
The company said the decorations are part of the company’s new “Gift of the Tree” program that encourages customers to make personalized gifts.
Walmart said in a statement the decorations were placed in the tree to mark the beginning of the Christmas season.
The company has been a frequent seller of Christmas decorations, and it is also promoting the new program, which offers an alternative to gift cards.
Wal-Mart is the latest retailer to announce changes in its Christmas decorations since the start of the year.
In March, it announced it would be cutting its Christmas tree to a single white tree.
